Nublu Producer Mondays

I believe in simplicity. This takes shape in various ways, but most consistently it manifests as live music with a beverage in hand.

This belief was put into practice last night at Nublu’s Producer Mondays. As someone who proclaims to know a thing or two about the New York music scene, I am embarrassed to admit this was my first foyer with Nublu.

Heavy velvet curtains guard the audiophile paradise from the cruel outside world. A tiered stage is stacked with countless musicians. As the artists assume their positions, I stir the lime into my well vodka soda.

Jazz elements begin to fill the space, as if the orchestra is warming up the strings. From an unknown position on stage, a drum machine starts shaking the venue. Musicians consistently flow on and off the stage as they see fit. The woodwind section amasses a small army capable of waging war against the other instruments. They remain victorious.

The floor fills up and becomes a hazard for my half drank beverage. I do the right thing and finish it.

As my feet grow weary I find a second wind as Questlove steps up to the plate. Drum sticks in hand, he flows onstage to be the next natural iteration to organic sound blanketing the venue.

Time ceases to hold importance.

EXT. – NUBLU – NIGHT (1AM) Carter aimlessly bumbles around as his friends rekindle college connections and indulge in Marlboro Yellows.

The night concludes at 11th St. Bar. We intermittently chat about how incredible the music was, but primarily ponder the magic of stumbling into establishments in this insane city. I will be returning to Producer Mondays. I will also continue to believe in simplicity.

All you need sometimes is music with soul and a beverage.
