Nitefire: Conversations About Nothing

Critics (we) are saying that indie pop has never been this addictive. No band has ever defined themselves better, self-described as “what your roommate is doing to her boyfriend in the next room, somehow super in but also so last year,” and “not what you want to hear, but what the algorithms are feeding you, so you might as well turn it up.” Our summer wouldn’t be the same without their records, so I urge you to check them out. This week, the Radio is very excited to join Nitefire in a conversation about nothing.

Who is Nitefire?

Nitefire is Nico Geyer, Spider White, Noah "Champ" Davies, and X

What’s on the show rider?

Coconut water and a box of camel blues.

Three emotions you want people to feel while listening to Nitefire?

Afraid

In trouble

Dread

Where did the band name originate?

007 Video Game "Nightfire."

“Feeling” was one of our most listened to songs last year, I even went on to spin it at multiple clubs here in Manhattan. Describe how that song and music video came to fruition?

Thank you for doing that. I (Nico) wrote the song one night alone at home on my acoustic guitar, and brought it to Luke a few days later and said "Let's get something out of this".

We had a little session with our friend Sarah Tudzin who tracked us through our first version of the song. Afterward, Luke and I came together to finalize the lyrics.

We had a fully recorded version about a year later after working with friend and producer Aron Kobayashi Rich <3, and spent so much money on our music video for LA's Got Gorgeous that we needed to chill on the one for feeling.

So I shot and directed it myself, designed and built the stage in our friend's studio, and spent a day getting all those orange shots. I love the color orange. Next thing you know, we had a music video that got into some Berlin Music Video festival (I think?). Couldn't tell you more than that.

Favorite dance floor?

I've had some amazing nights at Good Room, but that was a while ago. I had a lot of fun when the Dare was DJing at Home Sweet Home. Anywhere, really. So long as the club is bumping, the ladies look good, and the alcohol is flowing, I'm happy.

What’s a song you wish you wrote?

I wish I wrote Only Wanna Be With You by Hootie and the Blowfish.

Was “Uptight” written about anyone in particular or just an amalgamation of encounters and emotions (or something else)?

Uptight is about Los Angeles.

In your opinion, what purpose does music serve?

No purpose, just for fun.

Last song you were listening to?

Hysteric by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
