Control The Sound
*Sigh* I promised myself I wouldn’t write. I tried telling myself I’d enjoy a show without taking down notes for once. “It’s my birthday, I don’t wanna think about blog stuff”, I said. But here we are. I’m writing and you’re reading, just as nature had intended for us. I guess it was always gonna be this way. Maybe we should kiss while we’re at it.
I’m always in search of good music, so asking bands who their favorite band is like getting the purest of crack straight from the source. When I posed Moderate Rock this question, there wasn’t a moment of hesitation in their answer. “Control The Sound”. Not only do I trust their taste more than most, but they also share the same drummer (who happened to be unavailable at the time of our interview), so I had all the more reason to go check the band out.
And oh boy I’m happy I did.
Control The Sound pull no punches-they’re funky, they’re fast and they’re fun. Embodying the swingy demeanor of New York in their music, these Brooklynites set the tone for a real party when they take to the stage. Control The Sound are engaging performers and had the crowd on strings from the first song to the last, creating a sense of pure jubilance in the venue that had me smiling ear to ear.
The best way to describe their playing? It’s like if someone had unlocked star-power from Guitar Hero, but for the entirety of their set. I was so immersed in the moment that it felt like I had to learn how to breathe again by the time it all ended. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but once you see them live you will completely understand what I mean. A lot of great indie bands I see are boring and a lot of fun indie bands I see suck, however Control The Sound walk that elusive fine line like seasoned trapeze artists. It’s not everyday you find tight playing and musical literacy combined with a radical sense of joy, so I’m almost certain this band is a recession indicator. And while I might not be able to give you sound investment advice, I will clue you in on one thing: Go check out Control The Sound before they blow up, the stock price only goes up from here.
