A$AP Nast @ Dover Street Market NY

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, can I get a round of applause for a partnership that finally makes sense? To celebrate the release of his debut project, “90’s Era Nasty”, A$AP Nast becomes the first musician in history to have Comme des Garçons album merch. For anyone who claims to have motion, read that last sentence again and tell me if you really have motion.

To kick off the launch of this capsule collection (allegedly the first of many!), Dover Street Market hosted an exclusive event headlined by a live performance from Nast himself. Sometimes being chronically online does pay off; I was luckily able to secure an elusive RSVP merely 3 minutes after it was posted.

As I arrived, It was only a natural part of life to see A$AP affiliates perched up outside Dover. Everything and nothing has changed. The first floor was packed to the brim with some of the freshest heads in all of New York, and I assume a collective credit card debt that amounted to the GDP of a small nation. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I’ve always called A$AP Nast the best dressed musician on earth just to be hit with the same annoying retort: “He doesn’t even make music”. Well haters, I’m happy to tell you that I got a chance to hear some of his new album and I loved it.

Live from the second floor and fresh from rummaging racks, he performed his new single “No Hammer” and an unreleased song as well, where he reps both Opium and A$AP. His 90’s era boom-bap sound is a testament to his stylistic influences and Harlem upbringing, the most natural canvas for his braggadocious roof down raps.

Despite a tipsy girl spilling champagne on my own CDG Shirt, the night honestly restored some sort of cultural faith in me. It felt authentic. It felt right.

This is the feeling people want restored.

The fact that someone who spent his whole life collecting Comme and attending events like these manifested his own collection and special release with them makes me feel optimistic about life. There’s nothing more satisfying than a full circle moment.

Tune into the footage above and check out the performance!
