Annual Report

Observations concluding 2024

Conservatism in fashion and speech is making a return. Hearing lots of R-words and seeing lots of Barbour.

There’s still one AirPod being charged less than the other

Seeing less and less hard seltzers being consumed

We’re rapidly approaching the end of minimalist ads and graphic design in the mainstream.

People are seeing through bullshit more than ever. Uncertainty allows for critical thinking just as much as it does hysteria.

Holiday spirit is dead

There are too many men on scooters

Printers still suck

Sambas finally slowing down

Ins:

Lounges

  • I’m tired of having to scream in someones ear at the club. Can we just chill out a bit, like actually? While this is a purely vibes based prediction I do foresee a logical migration to lounges as opposed to clubs. Too tired to dance, too wired for a restaurant, just right for a lounge. There’s great appeal in drinking somewhere that’s a cozy, sexy space with better furniture than the IKEA in your studio apartment. It also gives you a reason to dress your best, without any of the worry that your clothes might get fucked up by an aloof drink spiller doing the most on the dancefloor. Sounds pretty nice, right?

Class consciousness

  • This year ended with a bang. We usually like to keep it light but we’re at the crux of a turning point in American history. With more and more peoples attention turned to the healthcare industry and wealth disparity, we’re increasingly closer to achieving a legitimate sense of class consciousness. Change is in the people’s hands (this is not a call to violence), keep applying pressure. All it takes is a conversation.

Digital libraries

  • Do you remember when Google was actually useful? When you could find esoteric information about your niche topic without digging through an endless sea of SEO optimized blabber? I do. It feels like useful knowledge is being wiped from the web at rapid rates and digital libraries are the only remaining source of nuanced, meaningful information. Don’t tell me to use duckduckgo or some other weird alternative search engine either. Thats sexual suicide.

Baseball

  • I’ve never seen people so excited to watch Baseball as I have this October. With elite teams in both cultural capitals of the US, Baseball is going to quietly continue attracting a fashionable crowd. Baseball contracts are becoming increasingly lucrative and trending towards bigger money than basketball, so we’ll also see an incline in the quality of WAGs which will bring more interest from women. There are also plenty of handsome baseball players (with man ass which is also in) as well, giving more credence to prospective interest from demographics other than straight men and senior citizens. An increase in the popularity of baseball is inevitable, and I think the return to a republican majority seals this fate. However, there will be great diversity in spectators and a night at the ballpark will be a popular activity due to accessible pricing and proximity to hotdogs. Baseball is back as America’s favorite pastime.

Outs:

JapanPosting™️

  • The price of the Yen needs to go back up because I’m tired of seeing all your Japan posts. You don’t have to post Japanese 7/11, I’ve already seen it on 3 other stories this week. A bowl of ramen? Real original. Manga haul? Keep your tentacle porn away from me. I love Japan but please for the love of god stop posting your Tokyo trips. There’s also a genre of JapanPosting™️ that romanticizes Japan as some idealistic utopia, completely ignoring any negative aspects of the country or the existence of widespread issues like the grueling work culture, alienating nationalism, and perversion towards women. There’s many things I admire about Japan and I’d love to visit myself but please for the love of god, let’s leave all the Japan posts in 2024. How about some KoreaPosting™️ for a change?

Indie Sleaze

  • Literally every indie sleaze dude says they’re not indie sleaze but we’re foreal now. For the last 2 years we’ve been letting it die slowly (the revival did feel fresh and fun at a time), all the whilst holding onto the remnants of what was fun about it. A lot of the music that’s come from this scene is great and dear to our hearts but the aesthetics are tired (don’t expect any more American Apparel flips from us), nostalgia sucks, and there’s generally a lot of weirdos who associate themselves with this scene. We’re living in a very interesting point in time, one that is screaming for newness and originality. Enjoy the Helvetica while it lasts, I hope the freaks at Market Hotel have a great run with it.

Intellectual Property slop

  • Somebody please fund more original ideas for christ’s sake. We’ve seen how well new stories have done in 2024 with movies like The Substance, Challengers, and Anora, so can we stop rehashing old media that doesn’t need to be touched? I know this is antithetical to the nature of capitalism but fuck me, I really don’t care to see Austin Butler in an American Psycho reboot. I also miss when collaborations used to mean something and bring an air of freshness to the table, rather than an effortless tool for money grabs. Half of these collabs don’t even make sense. Someone tell me why Shein is collabing with Cocomelon????? Smells like a psyop.

Lookalike contests

  • History truly does repeat itself as whimsical trends seem to take over the 20s. It was funny the first time but the public has beat this trend to a dead pulp already and it only started like 3 months ago. This is definitely a recession indicator right?
