Indie Euphoria: The Hellp and More Take NYC by Storm
On May 31st, electronic music’s heaviest hitters gathered inside the storied walls of the Bowery Ballroom. Sleazy electronic music enjoyers gathered from every corner of the earth (prob just jersey) for a spectacular lineup featuring The Hellp, Instupendo, Damon R., Extra Small and Caleb Peters. What a list. One of dreams. The energy was electric, suffocating almost. With all the anticipation the melting pot of fans crammed towards the front of the venue.
Caleb Peters
Caleb Peters (an artist I’m sure will make it on my Spotify Wrapped) was up first. The rookie of the group is already turning heads and creating a buzz. His performance was 5 or so songs. He played a new cut or 2 and left the crowd stunned. Excited to see more from Peters upcoming projects and such.
Instupendo
Up next: Instupendo. He took the stage with an intriguing setup. A lone CDJ stood as a silent companion. Fusing droning electronic beats and airy vocals left a dreamscape that resonated through the venue.
Damon R. and Extra Small
The energy continued to escalate with Damon R. and Extra Small. Together on stage, the potent combo (performing as DRES) delivered an energetic set. The set left me wanting more unique DRES tracks.
The Hellp
Closing the night with a bang, The Hellp once again proved why they are a force to be reckoned with. The packed New York crowd was treated to a performance full of unique visuals and excellent sound. Live editing the synths is a Hellp trademark. Each show reminds me why I appreciate this band so much. Truly each live show showcases their unique style and left me reliving the first time I listened to The Hellp. After the show The Hellp projected their new music video California Dream Girl on the side of a building.
Afterparty
Held at a tiny lil bar below Washington Sqr. I was cramped and it amazing. Lots of unreleased music being tried and tested.
