Becoming a Better Person at 2Hollis

2Hollis performed live at Warsaw and I’ve never felt such like unc.

Let me set the scene: Same clothes from work. Drinking a monster and cheap vodka. Frustrated because I can’t find my ticket (did I buy this on ticketmaster or live nation? isn’t that the same company? Why are there 2 apps? why do I have to reset my password every time I log in.)

Trials and tribulations behind me, I find myself in the suburbs (Williamsburg). Passing tables full of small bites and dirty martini’s, I turn the final corner of the venue, when the inevitable hits me. I’m surrounded by TikTok Shop outfits. A full-fledged invasion. Fear sets in. Will anyone at the show be moshing? Are we all here for clout? Will I accidentally step on someones Geobaskets? To make matters worse, the large “NO MOSHING” posted on the front entrance didn’t inspire any confidence.

Once inside, we investigate the venue. Nate Sib, the opener, isn’t on yet so we try to pass the time. Naturally, first stop, the bar. Beers started at $9. We opted to not partake.

Next grand plan, make friends with people working. Apparently that was a horrible idea. No one was having it. After attempting to make light banter with 3 different employees I came to the conclusion: no one is in a good mood.

Nate Sib’s up. His voice, highkey angelic. Really bringing back that 2000’s Bieber thing and I fuck with it. His stage presence was locked in, audio mix incredible and overall got me excited to hear more from him.

We find refuge in the smoking section (the last bastion of community in the year 2024). We met a minion, bummed a cig and bonded with like minded individuals over 2hollis’ insane production. Great curation of people in the Warsaw smoking section. Shout out to bro in the Minion costume. That was so fire. Big ups mane.

Finally, the time has come. We find ourselves in the world of 2Hollis. The Targaryen looking giant gets on stage and cuts straight to the chase. Finding myself levitating towards the front I felt something click. To the sound of “Say it Again”, I felt a piece of hope restored. Even if these rapper-merch wearing, TikTok rizz party attending, 18 yr olds bring fear to my eyes outside, it doesn’t mean we can’t come together in the pit.

In the pit, there was order. Direction even. The pit followed a counter clockwise momentum providing the optimal flow to ping pong off one another. It clicked in my mind, the new generation of meant no harm, actually they’re just like me (unc moment).

I realized my fears lied in this concert being in the cross hairs of the ‘TikTok trend cycle’ rather than the people. In the back of my mind, I knew Hollis was blowing up on TikTok (I mean ofc he was his music is great) but that illicit’s a different, less ‘die-hards-there-for-the-music’ vibe. I just didn’t wanna be in the room of people who knew one song, got their picture and left.

What I realized dancing amongst my comrades was the love on concerts is still very much alive and well. Even though I may be an unc (I’m 23), 2Hollis connected all of us through beautiful vocals, choppy drums, and shining synths.

Maestro of the concert recap, PointOneSeven got some amazing footage of the show while I was busy getting trampled in the pit. Check it out, it’s fire.

Final words: Faith in humanity restored. People still know how to have a good time. I went to the 2hollis show and became a better person. It’s like taking mushrooms for the first time all over again. Empathy. Jeans. Minions. Are concerts the last sacred space? The closest thing gen z has to going to church? Being apart of something bigger than ones own self?
